Just as Chane was about to lose hope, she received a call from the German embassy with the good news that, after a 5 week waiting period, her visa was ready for collection.

Arriving in Germany on 22 September, after an emotional farewell and an intense fear of flying, Chane was met with mixed feelings about her choice to be a part of this exchange programme. The cold, wet and miserable weather, lack of communication and difficulty in locating her buddy certainly didn’t help with her internal struggle. Not to mention, the chaos that ensued when she found out that she was unable to move into her apartment that night.

However, after all of the initial battles and confusion, Chane finally settled into her “bachelorette pad” and lives in the same building as other students from all over the world. She has had a chance to explore Ingolstadt and is amazed by its beauty. Her orientation schedule is extremely busy and she has met other students from Canada, Mexico, Turkey and Russia. She is also in awe of the University itself, commenting on the uniqueness and beauty of the raw building compiled mostly of steel and glass.

Although it was a rocky start, Chane is grateful for the opportunity to study abroad and is very excited for the adventure waiting for her over the next few months.

On Heritage day (Braai Day) Chane was unable to celebrate in true South African style, but luckily she had the second best thing with her to enjoy….Biltong
